You must stay at home! The impact of commands on behaviours during Covid-19

In research undertaken with Dr Dario Krpan at LSE, we found that people surveyed found the use of draconian orders from the UK government around lockdown to be threatening, and they felt anger and negative feelings. However, these orders motivated them to intend to change behaviour. Compliance was measured three days later and although the intention had increased, it didn’t translate into actual behaviour changes. The research was published in the Social Psychological and Personality Science journal and you can view the full paper here.
